Presenting oneself and one’s own work is a one of the most important competencies for Postdocs and Assistant Professors. Presenting well increases the impact researchers will have on the scientific community and will also increase their chances of success when making their next career move. This practical and applied workshop addresses the different aspects which will enable researchers to deliver an engaging and impactful presentation. The workshop will provide multiple opportunities to actively practice short presentations, with and without digital aids. Participants will leave the workshop with a draft of their presentation and a clearly structured story, which they can subsequently translate into a delivery format of their choice (free talk, whiteboard, flipcharts, or PowerPoint).

Goals
In this practical and interactive workshop, you will:
•Develop your ability to present yourself and your work in an engaging and impactful way
•Learn how to structure your presentation in a coherent way (focusing on the most important aspects)
•Train to be more concise and gear your presentation towards the interests of your audience
•Understand your presentation as an opportunity to reach goals (collaborations, funding, jobs etc.)
•Increase your confidence regarding performance and interaction with the audience
•Learn how to navigate challenging situations

Topics
•Know and be able to name your skills and competencies
•Focus on the presenter: why do we present and how to communicate this
•Focus on structure: telling a coherent story and making it essential
•Focus on methods: making a difference without digital aids while still using them
•Focus on performance and impact: structure, voice, body language
•Tailoring your presentation to the target audience
•Handling questions
•Dealing with special challenges: stage fright, blackout, panic

Working Style
•As our training philosophy is based on ‘learning by doing’, we strive for a highly interactive learning environment in which participants actively engage in discussions and exercises
•We will balance teaching and practical exercises in pairs or small groups
•We will work with real life cases of participants
•Extensive practice will ensure progress
•Optional video recordings will enable participants to change perspective
•Materials produced during the workshop will be made available to participants

Attendance
The attendance is free of charge for the postdocs/assistant professors employed at BRIC/Finsen.
Postdocs and assistant professors from other departments at the university of Copenhagen will be able to participate if seats are available. Price:  6900 DKK
You are required to attend the full workshop.

Cancellation policy
If you don´t show up or cancel your participation less than 2 weeks before the workshop, you will be charged the full cost of the workshop
